SAG Awards a Crystal Ball into Oscars?

As shown by the fact that all but two of its movie-acting nominees are exactly the same as those singled out by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, SAG, the union that celebrates actors, is also very good at setting them up to win Oscars.
Furthermore, the SAG nominees for cast in a motion picture also closely mirror the Academy's picks for Best Picture: The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Frost/Nixon, Milk and Slumdog Millionaire all made both lists.

The only SAG supporting actor nominee who didn't make it onto the Oscar list was Dev Patel in Slumdog Millionaire. Kate Winslet, nominated by SAG for supporting actress in The Reader, is up for the same role, but in the best actress category, at the Academy's Feb. 22 main event.
In all, SAG has 15 categories, nine of which are devoted to performances on television. Here, Samantha Who?'s Christina Applegate and 30 Rock's Tina Fey will square off for the lead actress in a TV comedy category. Mad Men, 30 Rock, John Adams and The Closer and their stars all commanded three nods each.
Says best supporting actress nominee Penelope Cruz, "To be nominated by my colleagues, by the actors, is a huge, huge honor. That's one of the most special ceremonies for me."
Watch the 15th Annual Screen Actor Guild Awards live Sunday, Jan. 25, on TNT and TBS at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
