Having earned critical raves for her raw portrayal of recovering drug addict Kym in Rachel Getting Married
, Anne Hathaway
has now picked up another plaudit: a Spirit Award nomination.
Hathaway, 26, is in the running for best female lead and will face off against Michelle Williams
(Wendy and Lucy
) when Film International's Spirit Awards are handed out Feb. 21.
In all, Rachel Getting Married
, directed by Jonathan Demme, is up for six awards, as is Ballast,
a drama about survival in the Mississippi Delta. Leading the field, both films were recognized in the best feature category and for their actors and directors.
Other high-profile nominees include: Penélope Cruz
, for best supporting female in Woody Allen's Vicky Cristina Barcelona
; Javier Bardem, for best male lead in that same film; and Sean Penn, as '70s gay activist Harvey Milk, in director Gus Van Sant's Milk.
Penn's costar, James Franco, earned a best supporting male nod.
