Angelina Jolie Is Just Like Her Mom

Originally posted 01/26/2009 12:20PM

Angelina Jolie likes to please her fans, but respect from her peers is just as important, she says.

"It means a great deal," the actress told PEOPLE Sunday night of the SAG Awards, "especially because it is the people you respect and your fellow actors. You know they really understand your work when they watch it. They don't look at it just as a movie. They understand the technique behind performance."

Jolie was nominated for her leading role performance in Changeling, but Meryl Streep took home the Actor for Doubt.

The actress has an almost wistful devotion to her Screen Actors Guild card, she adds, because of her mother, Marcheline Bertrand, who passed away two years ago from ovarian cancer.

Brad Pitt Liked Looking Old on Film

In The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Brad Pitt gets a glimpse of his future. Aged by makeup and prosthetics, Pitt's normally handsome face is covered with wrinkles.

But the two-time PEOPLE Sexiest Man Alive didn't mind. "I had a little control over it. I got to shape it and sculpt it," he tells PEOPLE. "I doubt gravity and time will be that kind."

Both Pitt and Jolie were nominees at this year's SAG Awards: Pitt, 45, for Button and Jolie, 33, for her role in Changeling.

On the red carpet, Pitt called the arrivals scene "crazy," but said he doesn't get too nervous. "We've been doing it a little while," he says. "It's really a nice time for us to come and catch up with our friends we haven't seen all year. It's a good night."

Kate Winslet Takes a Diet and Exercise Hiatus

She may be an old pro at awards shows, but Kate Winslet still has to deal with butterflies in her stomach.

"To be honest with you, I’m more nervous through this award season than I have ever been before in my life," she told PEOPLE on the red carpet of last night's SAG awards, where she took home the Actor for her role in The Reader. "I’m still not used to it at all."

To keep her sanity, Winslet has decided not to put any undue pressure on herself, saying she's "not exercising at all, and I’m eating whatever I like."

Is it working? Winslet thinks so. "Pressure? Gone!" she says. "That's how I'm going to get through it."

A year after an irate voicemail message that Alec Baldwin left for his daughter, Ireland, leaked on the Internet, the actor proved that the two have put hard feelings behind them.

Baldwin gave Ireland a shout-out after winning a Golden Globe recently – and he brought her even closer to the action at the Screen Actors Guild Awards on Sunday. The 30 Rock star – and SAG Award winner – took his stunning 13-year-old to the ceremony as his date.

Accepting his outstanding male actor in a comedy series honor, Baldwin thanked his castmates, saying, "I get to do this show with a bunch of people who are just the funniest and sweetest people.”

At the recent Golden Globe ceremony, the actor acknowledged his daughter, whom he said made him "laugh while I'm at home."
