Last July when emerging R&B star Frank Ocean published an emotional letter detailing an early love affair with a man, his "coming out" story made headlines in the hip-hop world and beyond.

Now, the Grammy-nominated songwriter is being honored by GLAAD, the nation's lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender media advocacy and anti-defamation organization.

Ocean is among the 120 nominees for the 24th Annual GLAAD Media Awards, the organization announced early Wednesday morning. He is being recognized for his critically-lauded Channel Orange album.

Other musician nominees include Adam Lambert (for his album Tresspassing).

Chaz Bono was in good company at the GLAAD Media Awards on Saturday night.

His mom Cher showed up to support her son at the event in Los Angeles.

"So much fun at Glaad awards!" the singer Tweeted. "I really surprised Chaz! HE was adorable,Said wow mom i was so surprised i forgot what i was going 2say!"

Bono, who was the first transgender contestant on Dancing with the Stars, was honored for his OWN documentary, Becoming Chaz, and with the Stephen F. Kolzak Award, which is given by GLAAD to a gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender entertainer for promoting equality.

The Breaking Dawn star, 23, and her American Idol alum beau, 26, are engaged, a source confirms to PEOPLE.

Posing together at Sunday's MTV Movie Awards, the couple showed off a sparkler on Reed's left ring finger as she told E!, "He's the one."

Sarah Jessica Parker and her fellow Sex and the City 2 stars won big last night – scoring multiple "wins" at the 31st annual Razzie Awards on Saturday night.

Parker, Kim Cattrall, Cynthia Nixon and Kristen Davis were all awarded golden raspberries for worst actress. The film also won worst sequel, worst screen ensemble and worst onscreen couple.

M. Night Shyamalan's latest film, The Last Airbender, took home worst picture, worst director, worst supporting actor for Jackson Rathbone and the award for "worst eye-gouging mis-use of 3D."

Ashton Kutcher was named worst actor for both Killers and Valentine's Day.
