Planning ahead is the key to a unified hair and wardrobe look. "Down made more sense than up," says hairstylist Jamal Hammadi, who began imagining Gomez's People's Choice Awards coif the moment he learned which Paule Ka frock she'd be wearing. "The dress and ruffles were gorgeous, [but] I didn't want the look to be all about the ruffles," he explains of says of counterbalancing the design's stand-out feature. "The night was about Selena, so I set about to best complement her and the dress with the perfect hair look."
