Years of abusing drugs and alcohol left Nick Carter with cardiomyopathy, a potentially fatal weakening of the heart muscle. But the diagnosis also enabled him to turn his life around: He got sober and embarked on a healthier lifestyle that helped him drop 57 lbs. Today, the Backstreet Boy works out five times a week and eats a balanced 2,000-calories-a-day diet of egg-white omelets, grilled chicken and veggies. And thinking positively keeps him on track. "If I continue to stay strong," says Carter, "then I won't go backwards."
