When it comes to 2014's Best Picture nominees, each region has its own taste: New Jersey prefers Wolf of Wall Street, Dallas loves its Buyers Club and the Midwest can't get enough Captain Phillips.

That's the lesson from Facebook's map of trending Best Picture films. The social network's analytics team measured Facebook mentions of all nine Best Picture nominees during the week before the Oscars and found that five films stood out: 12 Years a Slave, Captain Phillips, Dallas Buyers Club, The Wolf of Wall Street and American Hustle.

Regionally, the differences were telling: California and the South couldn't stop talking about 12 Years a Slave, Texas bought what Buyers Club was selling, Wolf of Wall Street roared over the New York region, and Massachusetts fell for American Hustle. Captain Phillips, meanwhile, was loved across the country – from Alaska to Florida to Maine.

Beyond geography, the social network revealed that men preferred Wolf of Wall Street, while women preferred Dallas Buyers Club. Broken down by age, young people loved Wolf, middle-aged people loved Dallas Buyers Club and the over-50 set loved Philomena.

The race for Best Supporting Actor showed another surprising gender split: Women are stumping for front runner Jared Leto, while men are talking about Bradley Cooper.

Of all the films nominated for awards Sunday night, Despicable Me 2 is the most popular with every demographic.
