Chris Brown's return to the Grammy Awards this year – he performed twice and won a gramophone for best R&B album – was not welcomed by everyone.

Country star Miranda Lambert tweeted her disapproval of Brown's appearance writing, "Chris Brown twice? I don't get it. He beat on a girl ... Not cool that we act like that didn't happen."

Added Lambert, "He needs to listen to Gunpowder and Lead and be put back in his place. Not at the Grammys." (The reference is to Lambert's song about a woman waiting to kill her husband after he gets out of jail.)

Brown pled guilty to assaulting Rihanna, who was his girlfriend, in 2009 the day before the Grammy Awards. He has not been back to the awards since that incident. Rihanna also performed Sunday night.

Lambert wasn't the only one who had a problem with Brown's appearance. Jack Osbourne also Tweeted about it: "Chris brown ... people don't forget! #chrisbrownbeatswomen. If Chris Brown had worn a wife beater, the irony would eclipse the whole show."

Singer Michelle Branch asked: "Trying not to go off on a rant but ... Chris Brown ... *bites tongue* have we forgiven him? #Grammys."

Others who publicly voiced their displeasure included Wil Wheaton ("Everyone who apparently forgot what Chris Brown did to Rihanna should read the police report exactly what he did"); Modern Family's Eric Stonestreet ("Are Chris Brown's mom and dad CBS and Grammy Brown?"); and The View's Sherri Shepherd ("Looks like all is forgiven w Chris Brown. That's all I'll say.")

Brown, of course, had something to say, too. He posted a Tweet, "Hate all you want becuz I got a Grammy now. That's the ultimate F––– off!" that E! online reports he deleted and replaced with a less aggressive message.
