Talk about a grade-A entrance: When Lady Gaga rolled into the 53rd annual Grammy Awards Sunday night, the six-time nominee arrived in an alternative form of transportation.

E! red carpet host Ryan Seacrest described it as a shell or an egg.

“This is going to make for an interesting interview,” Seacrest said, with a laugh. “How are we going to crack that shell and make a conversation with Lady Gaga?”

The album of the year nominee, 24, who’s expected to perform her much-hyped single “Born This Way” at the ceremony, apparently had an oxygen tank inside the egg, but she never spoke a word on the red carpet. Instead, her team did all the talking.

“She is incubating,” choreographer Laurieann Gibson told an amused Seacrest. “She won’t be born until her performance this evening.”

The pop queen waved from inside the “womb,” which was designed by Hussein Chalayan, saving her energy for what Gibson said would be a performance that would “shift the world.”
