Rachel Reilly and Brendon Villegas

They have spent the past two summers pent up in the Big Brother
house but now engaged couple Rachel Reilly and Brendon Villegas are travelling the world on The Amazing Race
"We thought we would do well on The Amazing Race
because its more our style of competition. We don't have to worry about getting along with everybody the whole time, we can just compete," Villegas told PEOPLE on Valentines Day, the couples' one-year anniversary of their engagement.
Just days after taking home the $500,000 Big Brother prize last September
, Reilly and her fiancé were asked to join ten other teams for the upcoming season premiering Sunday.
"I don't think I knew what I was getting myself in to," Reilly said. "I thought, 'We could totally do this,' but the Race
is so different from Big Brother
When first meeting their competitors, Villegas, 31, and Reilly, 26, both looked at twins Elliot and Andrew Webber as their biggest competition.
"We were both kind of intimidated by them it is a two-guy team," Reilly said. "If it was Brendon and Jeff [Schroeder from Big Brother
] running the race I think people would have been intimidated because they would be a two-guy team."
While they are no strangers to high-stress situations, the Big Brother
couple found sleep deprivation to be their biggest hurdle on the race.
"Between all the travelling and the odd times you don't get a lot of sleep," Villegas said. "That's why people make stupid decisions."
Reilly promises a season with "plenty excitement and drama," but maintains that their penchant for emotional outbursts did not distract the couple from reaching the pit stop mat.
"We can get in plenty of fights, but at the end of the day Brendon and I are in it to win it," she said. "We are going to keep going even if one of us gets down."
As for how the other teams sized them up?
"We were seen as a threat … but then again, I don't know because I was wearing sequins so I think they might have just laughed [us] off," Reilly explained. "I wore a lot of sequins on the show."
Fans will have to wait to find out if Reilly and Villegas won the million-dollar prize but for the time being the couple is enjoying Reilly's Big Brother
money and are house hunting in Los Angeles while Villegas continues graduate school at UCLA.
"I want to get married soon so we're planning our wedding now and we're getting to enjoy ourselves more and relax a little bit," Reilly said.
Reilly has yet to pick a dress for their big day – which they are hoping will take place this summer – but she is certain about one aspect of her gown: "lots of sequins."
The Amazing Race
premieres Sunday, Feb. 19 at 8 p.m. ET on CBS.
