When his father, Prince William, turned 1, his parents weren’t even with him on his special day.
For Prince George, the world is very different: At his first birthday on Tuesday, he will have the grandest of guests.
Although the only thing the palace will say is that “close family and friends” have been invited to the bash, PEOPLE understands that William and Kate have invited great granny Queen Elizabeth to the bash at their Kensington Palace home, with grandparents Mike and Carole Middleton also expected.
George’s grandfather, Prince Charles, and his wife Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, on the other hand, will be in Scotland, where they have a series of official engagements.
Claims that the Middletons were hosting a Peter Rabbit-themed party at their home in Bucklebury over the weekend were “substantially wrong,” a royal source says.
William was with his brother Harry playing polo for some of their charities at the home of Phantom of the Opera composer Andrew Lloyd-Webber.
In 1983, when he turned 1, William’s parents were on a lengthy tour of Canada and called home to talk to his nanny, who apparently held the phone to the little prince’s ear.
“All I could hear was a few squeaks,” Charles is reported to have told a student in Ottawa.
