One more crown jewel: Prince George’s christening robe is going on display at Buckingham Palace this summer.

The silk-and-satin lace garment, from his ceremony at the Chapel Royal, St. James’s Palace in October, is expected to become a favorite stop inside the annual exhibition at the opening of the palace.

This year’s theme of “royal childhood” is inspired by the birth last July of the third in line to the throne.

George’s robe, a replica of one commissioned by Queen Victoria, will serve as the centerpiece of a children’s clothing exhibit that also includes the page-boy sailor suit his father, Prince William, wore to the wedding of Prince Andrew to Sarah Ferguson in 1986.

Also on view in the Palace’s Music Room, where William was baptized, will be the silver-gilt Lily Font, which has been used in almost all royal baptisms – including George’s – since it was commissioned by Queen Victoria for her daughter Victoria’s ceremony in 1841.

Beloved toys – from jigsaws to train sets and rocking horses – of Queen Elizabeth and her late sister Princess Margaret will also be on display, as will a re-creation of the kitchen from the Queen’s miniature thatched cottage that stands in the grounds of Windsor’s Great Park.

The cottage is a favorite place to play for the Queen’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Princess Beatrice revealed two years ago, when she led its renovation in time for her grandmother’s Diamond Jubilee in 2012.

In the summer following the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s wedding, Kate’s fabulous Alexander McQueen wedding dress took center stage at the annual exhibit and brought a major boost to the number of visitors at Buckingham Palace.

This year, the palace opens its doors to visitors from July 26 to Sept. 28.
