Liz Cheney Quits Wyoming Senate Bid

Liz Cheney, daughter of former Vice President Dick Cheney, is quitting the Republican Wyoming Senate primary and abandoning her effort to unseat incumbent Sen. Mike Enzi, she announced early Monday morning, reports The New York Times.

“Serious health issues have recently arisen in our family, and under the circumstances, I have decided to discontinue my campaign,” Cheney said in a statement, adding that she would not elaborate further on the health issue.

Mary Cheney gave the news to her Facebook friends Friday afternoon: “Very happy to announce that as of this morning, Heather and I are legally married (at least in DC). 20 years to the day after our first date.”

Dick Cheney Receives Heart Transplant

Former Vice-President Dick Cheney received a heart transplant from an anonymous donor on Saturday, and is recovering in the Intensive Care Unit of Inova Fairfax Hospital in Falls Church, Va., outside of Washington, D.C.

“Although the former Vice President and his family do not know the identity of the donor, they will be forever grateful for this lifesaving gift,” said a statement from Cheney’s office.

The statement also said that Cheney, 71, had been on the waiting list for a new heart for 20 months.

Dick Cheney Takes Blame in Shooting

Vice President Dick Cheney has taken full responsibility for the accidental shooting of his hunter partner, 78-year-old lawyer Harry Whittington.

“Ultimately I’m the guy who pulled the trigger, that fired the round that hit Harry,” Cheney said in his first interview since the incident, with Fox News’s Brit Hume. “I’m the guy who pulled the trigger and shot my friend.”

Christian Slater Re-Files Divorce Papers

Christian Slater is seeking joint custody of his 4-year-old daughter Eliana and 6-year-old son Jaden with estranged wife Ryan Haddon, according to new documents in the actor’s ongoing divorce case.

The papers, filed Friday in Los Angeles Superior Court and obtained by the Associated Press, also indicate that Slater, 36, wishes to divvy up property under terms of a written agreement between himself and Haddon, a TV producer.

Those terms were not disclosed.

Cheney Accidentally Shoots Fellow Hunter

Vice President Dick Cheney accidentally shot and injured a fellow hunter, Harry Whittington, during a weekend quail hunt at a ranch in Texas.

Cheney, 65, reportedly sprayed birdshot into Whittington, a 78-year-old lawyer from Austin, while trying to hit a flock of quail on Saturday afternoon. Whittington was taken to Corpus Christi Memorial Hospital where he was treated for pellet wounds to the right side of his face, neck and chest.

Vice President Cheney Briefly Hospitalized

Vice President Dick Cheney was briefly admitted to George Washington Hospital early Monday after experiencing shortness of breath, a spokeswoman said.

The vice president left the hospital after about four hours, aides told CNN.

Cheney spokeswoman Lea Anne McBride said that physicians found his EKG unchanged and diagnosed he was retaining fluid because of medication he was taking due to a foot problem, the Associated Press reports. On Friday, that ailment forced Cheney to use a cane.
