Comic Carvey Testifies About Surgery

Dana Carvey testified in San Francisco Superior Court last week in his suit against the San Francisco surgeon who performed bypass heart surgery on him in 1998. The former “Saturday Night Live” star, 44, is suing heart surgeon Elias Hanna for operating on the wrong artery during the surgery. “I remember just lying in my bed just sobbing,” Carvey, who had gone under the knife to clear a blocked artery, said in court on Thursday.

Carvey Settles Medical Lawsuit

The $7.5 million medical malpractice lawsuit comedian Dana Carvey filed against heart surgeon Dr. Elias Hanna for operating on a wrong artery has been settled. Financial details were not disclosed, but Carvey – who discusses in this week’s PEOPLE cover story how his life went awry after his bungled 1998 double bypass – told the Associated Press that the settlement will be divided among charities, including those involved in heart research.
