Connie Nielsen, Lars Ulrich Welcome a Son

Gladiator actress Connie Nielsen and Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich have welcomed their first child together, a son.

“His name is Bryce Thadeus Ulrich-Nielsen,” Nielsen’s manager tells PEOPLE. “He was born on May 21.”

Nielsen, 42, told the Danish newspaper BT, “We are ecstatic. Everything is fine with him. He is eating, and he’s just so fine.”

And according to a post on, “Mother’s doing well, Dad’s in awe, and brothers Layne, Myles, and Sebastian are psyched!”

Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich, 43, and his girlfriend of two years, actress Connie Nielsen, 41, welcomed their first child together on Monday, May 21st. Bryce Thadeus Ulrich-Nielsen was born in San Francisco – no birth details were released.

Bryce joins big brothers Sebastian, 16, Myles, 8, and Layne, 6, from Connie and Lars’ previous relationships – according to the statement, they’re psyched!

Gladiator actress Connie Nielsen and Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich are expecting their first child together, PEOPLE has confirmed.

“They are ecstatic,” Nielsen’s rep, Joy Limanon, tells PEOPLE. The baby is due in the early summer.

This year, the Danish-born, New York-based Nielsen, 42, appeared as Detective Dani Beck on NBC’s Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. She costarred with Russell Crowe in 2000’s Gladiator and will next be seen playing a journalist in Iraq in the February drama The Situation.
