That’s right, Genie Francis – known to General Hospital fans as Laura Spencer – is returning to the ABC soap that skyrocketed her to stardom in 1976.

Executive producer Frank Valentini took to Twitter Wednesday to announce the happy news.

Genie Francis Reveals 30-Lb. Weight Loss

Genie Francis has felt the pressure to be thin since she was a teenager starring on General Hospital.

“I started working when I was 14 years old,” Francis tells PEOPLE. “The first thing they did after I had been there for three or four months is put Laura on a diet,” she says, referring to her character Laura Spencer, one half of soap opera supercouple Luke and Laura. “I totally freaked and it was very hard on me.”

Rick Springfield, 63, will reprise his role as Dr. Noah Drake on General Hospital for several episodes in April, he tells PEOPLE exclusively.

As the ABC soap opera marks its 50th anniversary, the “Jessie’s Girl” singer will also be joined by his son, Liam Springthorpe, who will make his debut appearance on the show as an undercover cop.

Springfield, who last appeared on the show in March 2012, says the good doctor has a lot of personal baggage to deal with.

John Ingle of General Hospital Dies at 84

John Ingle, a stalwart on the ABC daytime drama General Hospital for two decades, died on Sunday, a representative for the show confirmed to PEOPLE. He was 84.

In a posting on Facebook Monday, his family said: “Father, Husband, Grandan, Great Grandan, Brother, Uncle, Friend, Teacher, Inspirer, Mentor: May You Soar with the Angels. You will forever hold a special place in the deepest corners of our hearts.”
