Actor Matthew Cowles Dies at 69

Matthew Cowles, best known for his role on All My Children, has died. He was 69.

The husband of The Good Wife actress Christine Baranski passed away on Thursday, according to his manager, Tsu Tsu Stanton, who Tweeted out the news on Friday.

“#Matthew Cowles passed away on 5/22. I had the pleasure of being his manager,” she wrote. “He was a very gifted and kind man who loved life and everyone.”

The final episode of ABC’s All My Children aired Friday, ending the soap opera’s 41-year run.

It’s the end of an era!

With Thursday’s announcement that ABC’s long-running soap operas All My Children and One Life to Live will come to an end, one of the genre’s most iconic figures is speaking out – and moving on.

“It’s been a fantastic journey,” Susan Lucci said in a statement Thursday. “I loved playing Erica Kane and working with [show creator] Agnes Nixon and all the incredible people involved with All My Children. I’m looking forward to all kinds of new and exciting opportunities.”

All My Children and One Life to Live Canceled

It’s a sad day for soap opera fans.

ABC announced Thursday that the sun will set permanently in the fictional towns of Pine Valley and Llanview as All My Children and One Life to Live wrap up for good.

AMC’s last episode – which was rumored last month to be on the horizon – will be in September, while OLTL will end in January 2012.
