FBI Captures Mob Boss James 'Whitey' Bulger

James “Whitey” Bulger, the infamous Boston mobster wanted for 19 murders and who inspired Jack Nicholson’s character in 2006’s Oscar-winning The Departed, was captured by the FBI in California on Wednesday after 16 years on the run.

Bulger, 81, who is on the F.B.I.’s Ten Most Wanted list, and his girlfriend, Catherine Greig, were arrested without incident at a top-floor apartment in Santa Monica, Calif., where they had been living just blocks from the Pacific Ocean.

Wahlberg, DiCaprio Turn Out at Film Critics' Awards

Some of the first honors of the season were handed out Sunday at the New York Film Critics Circle awards – and Departed stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Mark Wahlberg turned out to support Martin Scorsese, who won for best director.

Wahlberg, for one, hopes Scorsese will win again at the Oscars. “I’m surprised he doesn’t have eight or nine of them at home already, but hopefully I’m in the movie that he finally wins for,” Wahlberg told the BBC. “I think he’s certainly long overdue. He’s an amazing talent.”
