In Sunday’s third episode, the Master’s recruits – old and new – began to show their true colors. The creature’s top lieutenant Thomas Eichorst (Richard Sammel, a pro at playing the king of creeps) kicks off the episode by, quite literally, putting on a new face. Without his prosthetics, Eichorst is a ghastly mutant who’s hell-bent on unleashing the Master s power on New York City.

Guillermo Del Toro, Chuck Hogan and Carlton Cuse’s new vampire-meets-epidemiology show The Strain premiered on FX Sunday, and if the Monday morning Internet reaction is any indication, the show is going to be a hit.

Social media is hopping over the show’s blend of gross-out effects, monsters and atmospheric horror.
