The election is now ancient history and the country has moved on from all the conflict, right? Perhaps not quite. At this week’s New York premiere of the sexy heist flick After the Sunset, we innocently asked star Pierce Brosnan whose suit he was wearing. He replied: “Michael Moore – I mean, Michael Kors!” Oops.
We also caught up with British actress Naomie Harris (28 Days Later), who says fellow Sunset star Woody Harrelson helped her to acclimate during filming: “I was so nervous because I come from small, independent movies, and here’s this big-budget movie – I was very intimidated and he sort of held my hand through the whole thing and looked after me.” The afterparty at the Time Warner Center, which benefited a New York City domestic violence program, attracted all the movie’s stars (including Salma Hayek and director Brett Ratner), plus Rosario Dawson and beau Jason Lewis, Entourage’s Jeremy Piven, Harvey Keitel and Ray’s Kerry Washington.
All in the Family
Sarah Jessica Parker was all smiles at a recent performance of The Foreigner on Broadway – which stars her husband, Matthew Broderick. “Every time he does a play, I’m always so thrilled, because I think everybody should see him onstage,” she said. “But the process is very painful. I get so nervous.” And though she misses having him around in the evenings when he’s working, Parker said, “I’m thrilled mostly because he loves doing what he does. Everybody should be so fortunate to do what they do, and love what they do. But we miss him – my son misses him a lot.”
Battle of the Billionaires
Donald Trump made his contempt for fellow tycoon Richard Branson’s reality show, Rebel Billionaire, clear enough (“I thought his show was terrible,” he told New York’s Daily News) – but the show’s contestants have nothing but praise for their would-be British benefactor. “He’s completely self-made and he’s grown this multibillion-dollar empire, yet he remains completely down to earth and very accessible,” says Billionaire contestant Steve Berke of the Virgin CEO. “He’s a guy who comes back from running his 300 companies and he’s like, ‘Hey Steve, want to go grab a beer?’. He’s that cool of a guy.” Adds Gabriel Baldinucci: “He really treated us like friends. He invited us into his home. He went out of his way to make sure we had fun and each one of us really got to bond with him.” Any Apprentice hopefuls saying that about The Donald?
