Comedian and former NewsRadio star Andy Dick pleaded not guilty to a misdemeanor marijuana possession charge on Wednesday in California’s Riverside County Superior Court, the Associated Press reports.
Dick, 38, was cited for allegedly possessing less than an ounce of marijuana, and a pretrial hearing has been scheduled for June 29.
Dick, who currently appears on the ABC comedy Less Than Perfect, was arrested May 2 by Indio police after a security guard at the Coachella music festival reportedly saw him attempting to light a marijuana cigarette.
This isn’t Dick’s first drug-related offense. In 1999, he asked a Los Angeles judge to consider him for a yearlong drug diversion program that could clear him of drug charges following his arrest the previous year, when his car hit a telephone pole near the Hollywood Bowl.
At the time, police said Dick appeared intoxicated and tried to flee. Rather than answer to charges of cocaine and marijuana possession and hit-and-run driving, Dick asked to be sent to the drug program.
Once Dick successfully completed an 18-month diversion program, a Los Angeles judge dismissed felony drug charges against him, and Dick went on to say that he was happy to have had the time to “conquer my problems.”
