CAST: Shirley MacLaine, 69, and Michael Caine, 71, are in negotiations to star in the roles of the witch and warlock parents of Samantha – to be played by Nicole Kidman, 36 – in the upcoming movie version of the ’60s TV sitcom “Bewitched,” says the Hollywood Reporter. The veteran actors previously starred together in the 1966 whodunit “Gambit.” Will Ferrell, also 36, has already signed to play Samantha’s put-upon (and mortal) husband Darren. Shooting is to begin this summer.
EXPECTING: Actor Casey Affleck, 29, and actress Summer Phoenix, 25, his girlfriend since 2001, are expecting a baby this May, Casey’s older brother Ben Affleck, 31, is telling interviewers, including PEOPLE. The elder Affleck also told the Chicago Sun-times of his sibling and Summer: “They’re not going to get married. My parents weren’t married when I was born.”
QUOTED: “Sometimes the production office was so quiet when I came in, I wondered, ‘Is there a Jewish holiday or something?’” – Tom Hanks, 47, on the ease of working with the Coen Brothers on “The Ladykillers”
REFUSED: Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Valerie Baker has denied a request by Cameron Diaz to dismiss a $10 million fraud and breach of contract countersuit by photographer John Rutter, whom the “Charlie’s Angels” star, 31, is suing for allegedly attempting to extort $3.3 million from her, say reports. Diaz reportedly posed for topless photos taken by Rutter before she was famous, and, according to court documents, he offered to sell her back the photos. Rutter, who stands charged with attempted extortion, attempted grand theft, perjury and two counts of forgery, is free on $250,000 bail pending trial.
FINED: The Federal Communications Commission on Thursday issued a maximum fine ($27,500) against Infinity Broadcasting for apparently willfully broadcasting indecent material in connection with "The Howard Stern Show" on WKRK-FM in Detroit. The Commission based its action on an investigation triggered by a complaint concerning material in which the show’s cast discussed sexual practices and techniques. Stern, 50, who says his discussions are no more frank than those heard on Oprah Winfrey’s TV show, accuses the FCC of following unclear, arbitrary guidelines in determining what material is “offensive.” He has also vigorously attacked President Bush for using his office to “push the agenda of the religious right.”
PREPPED: Despite the recent ratings disappointment of NBC’s “Charlie’s Angels” movie, ABC is moving ahead with a behind-the-scenes peek at the 1981-89 escapist TV fare “Dynasty,” reports the New York Post. The cast is made up of unknowns, with Bart John playing John Forsythe; Melora Hardin, Linda Evans; and Alice Krige in the juiciest role of all, that of Joan Collins. Shooting is taking place for the next month in Sydney – doubling for Denver?
