A Beach Boys benefit concert that drew 3,000 fans in North Platte, Neb., was a big bust. The July 28 show was supposed to raise money for American Legion baseball, a summer program for high school players. Instead, it put organizers $10,000 in the red. Organizer Larry Haneborg said the show grossed $50,000, but the cost of putting it on was nearly $60,000. Haneborg added that there might not have been enough time to promote the concert. Then he said that turnout might have been hurt by the fact that the show was held on a Wednesday with temperatures in the 90s.
