What are the odds?
Boyle, 52, walked into her local Ladbrokes storefront in her hometown of Blackburn, Scotland, last week after she spotted a poster in the window seeking a cashier.
The 16-hour a week job would pay minimum wage of around $10 an hour – giving her around $160 a week. She was apparently asked to apply online, and the firm points out that everyone is judged on their merits.
Jessica Bridge of Ladbrokes says, “We were as shocked as Simon, Amanda and Piers when Susan asked about the part-time vacancy. She once applied for a job with us before hitting the big time, so it’s good to see she’s still dreaming the dream of working for Ladbrokes.”
Boyle – who had a hit with the Rolling Stones’ “Wild Horses” – clearly doesn t need the money. Locals point out that she was likely looking for something to enable her to be around people and to fill her time.
However, it would seem that even “Wild Horses” would not be able to get her the gig. Boyle embarks on a U.K. tour starting in March.
