The makers of the Chia Pet recently announced the introduction of Mickey Mouse and Winnie the Pooh-licensed Chia Pets. (Also Chia Willie and Chia Uncle Si from Duck Dynasty.) So we’re looking back at Chias that have come before.

The first Chia planter, “Chia Guy,” was created on Sept. 8, 1977.

The first real Chia “pet,” designated as a “ram,” came out in 1982, and launched the product into the national consciousness.

The product’s second wave included a kitten version.

Shockingly, it took until 2000 for licensed “character” Chias to be introduced: Elmer Fudd, the Tasmanian Devil, and Tweety Bird were the first wave.

Naturally, Chia Mr. T wasn’t far behind.

Chia Homer Simpson followed in 2002.

Chia Obama was introduced in 2008; in 2009, the company introduced a smiling “happy” Chia Obama. (The initial model was deemed “determined” Chia Obama.)

Chia SpongeBob debuted in 2009, a full-figure model (as opposed to just a head).
