On Wednesday night, he rocked the stage with his band Thirty Seconds to Mars. By Thursday morning, Jared Leto was now a Golden Globe nominee as well as a rock star.
“I’m so happy!” Leto, 41, told PEOPLE of being honored for his portrayal of an HIV-positive, transgender drug addict in Dallas Buyers Club. “I haven’t made a film in almost six years and to return to this kind of enthusiastic support is absolutely insane.”
Leto, who spoke from his tour bus as it made its way to St. Louis for another concert, was also nominated for a SAG Award Wednesday. Could a nod from the prestigious Academy be next?
“I have a lock of Daniel Day-Lewis’s hair and Marlon Brando’s toenails as my good-luck charms,” he joked. “I figure that should do the trick. One in each pocket and I should be fine. No, I don’t have any [good-luck charms].”
Whether or not Oscar comes calling, Leto, who costars with fellow Globe nominee Matthew McConaughey, said, “I’m just happy to be a part of this celebration. It’s been a journey and the best thing about the nomination is it shines a light on this little movie. I’m just the ambassador and it’s an honor.”
And how does he plan on celebrating?
“I’m going to allow myself or attempt to go back to bed and enjoy some rest,” Leto insisted. “We are playing a big show in St. Louis tonight, so we’ll have a big celebration on stage.”
