If I’ve learned one thing over the years at Comic-Con is that the Con sleeps for no one.
I had the time of my life last night and when I got up today I knew it was it was time to do it all over again.
To be perfectly honest, the only way to truly recover from an all-night party-sesh is to toss back a warp core breach like the ones they serve in a fish bowl at Quark s Bar in Deep Space Nine, but time was short and I settled for a mimosa and a croissant that reminded me of the Millennium Falcon. I dare you to tell me I’m wrong.
By entertainment industry standards Saturday was a big day, but by Comic-Con standards it was massive. Imagine Godzilla inviting Galactus over for a tea party. Yep, it was that huge! Four studios engaged in an epic game of one-upmanship designed to surprise the sweaty latex pants off of everyone by delivering news bombshells and star power.
The day got off with a bang with the Warner Bros/Legendary panel. Larping (or live action role-playing) aficionados everywhere were stunned into submission to find out there’s a World of Warcraft movie on the way. Then, Sandra Bullock, a Comic-Con virgin, took the stage to cheers and chants of “I love you Sandra” to promote her new film Gravity. She definitely had the spirit of Comic-Con as she planned on cruising the floor later for free swag yeah, she gets it.
Then, another first timer, Tom Cruise, made a surprise appearance for his new film Edge of Tomorrow and he pulled up his costar and my friend Bill Paxton up on stage with him. Bill just happened to be my surprise guest at a Nerdist panel on Friday where he had a blast telling stories about working with James Cameron, his dad and his new graphic novel. Bill even admitted that this was his first Con!
