Two months after his announcement to PEOPLE that he has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease, country legend Glen Campbell has given his first TV interview – coming across as forgetful and strongly dependent upon his wife to fill in many of the answers.

“What was I saying?” Campbell, in the course of his conversation with ABC’s Terry Moran for Tuesday’s World News with Diane Sawyer, asked in the middle of answering a question about his career.

“I’m going to be right in the middle of a sentence, man – and it just goes, pew,” he said.

With his wife of nearly 30 years, Kim Woollen, at his side in their house in Malibu, Campbell said of Alzehimer’s, “I hadn’t gotten it yet. In fact, I don’t even know where it came from.”

“Yes, you’ve been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s,” interjected Woollen.
