Forget song choice – American Idol finalist Scotty McCreery has a much bigger decision to make ahead of Tuesday’s big performance show.
“Every time I look in the mirror, I’m going, ‘Should I [cut my hair]? Should I not?’ ” McCreery said at a press conference in Los Angeles on Monday.
“If J.Lo cuts it, I might,” McCreery, 17, said. “How many chances do you have to let the most beautiful woman in the world cut your hair?”
Meanwhile, his competition, Lauren Alaina, will certainly have her hair done but she’s more focused on singing and keeping calm. “I’m going a little crazy,” she said. “I got crazy nerves going on and I m just ready for [the finale] to get here.”
And though the finalists say they’re “going full steam ahead,” the country singers say they’re both still getting used to life in Los Angeles.
“This place is completely different from where I’m from,” Alaina, 16, said. “I went home [to Rossville, Ga.], and realized how small the buildings are and everything is just like a little dollhouse compared to here.”
“We’re both from small towns,” added Scotty, who’s from Garner, N.C. “We just try to stay true to ourselves and stay in our boots.”
And that means the season 10 finale will have a very distinctive sound: “Country music is it,” McCreery said. “The country fans are loyal and they’ve gotten us here, so we owe all this to them.”
Still, don’t expect the country-music sing-off to be anything but friendly.
“I’ve dreamed of being the next American Idol since I was 6-years-old … but either way, I feel like I’m going to win,” Alaina said. “If Scotty beats me, I’ll be happy because he’s one of my best friends.”
