Matthew Broderick may portray a pessimistic bachelor in his new film, Wonderful World, but at the film’s premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival Monday the actor played a role he is used to – adoring husband.
“Doesn’t she look beautiful?” Broderick gushed, holding the hand of his wife, Sarah Jessica Parker, 44, who arrived at the premiere Monday night in a skintight dress and sequined Christian Louboutin shoes. “I am so happy to be here tonight with her. We are having a great time.”
Broderick, 47, was also fashionably attired – but for another era. Sporting thick sideburns for his current Broadway play, The Philanthropist, he explained, “It takes place in the ’70s so that is why I am wearing the chops.”
But Parker, a fashion icon, didn’t seem to mind her hubby’s retro style. “I wanted to come out and support my husband tonight,” said the actress, with her arm slipped around Broderick’s waist. “This is the first time I’ve ever been to the Tribeca Film Festival.”
After the screening, the couple attended the film’s after-party at 675 Bar with an entourage of friends and family in tow. For much of the party, the two made the rounds separately, Parker chatting with Broderick’s publicist for the majority of the night and Broderick talking to his Wonderful World director Joshua Goldin.
In good spirits, Broderick said of his “down on his luck” character, “I think everyone can get a little pessimistic – but there are no direct correlations between me and my character at all.”
