Meet Jack Black’s new costars: a red Cyclops, a pink flower bubble, a blue cat-dragon, a yellow robot and a “little green one.”
In an upcoming episode of Nickelodeon’s Yo Gabba Gabba! called “New Friends” (airing Friday, April 3 at 1:30pm ET/PT), the funnyman is entertaining the show’s colorful creatures, Muno, Foofa, Brobee, Toodee and Plex, by teaching them a little disco in the show’s “Dancey Dance Time” segment.
“I have a 2-year-old son named Samuel and Yo Gabba Gabba! is one of our favorite shows,” Black says, adding, “My wife [Tonya] really thought it would be awesome if I came on the show.”
The live-action show, which has also welcomed stars like Elijah Wood, Laila Ali, Tony Hawk, and country band Sugarland, appeals to Black and his family because, he says, “there’s great music and funny songs and the characters are all really cool looking.”
But Black also appreciates the “good basic lessons” kids get while they watch – like “sharing” and “don’t throw things at friends,” he says.
“I’ll hear the Yo Gabba Gabba! team singing about ‘don’t bite your friends,’” he says, “and I’ll look at Sam to see if the lesson’s hitting home and he’s really listening.”
Appearing on the show also has its material rewards for Black and his son, long-time collectors of Yo Gabba Gabba! action figures.
“It’s hard to find Foofa,” he says. “A special bonus of doing the show, I got my own Foofa. Read ‘em and weep collectors, I got ‘em all!”
