It’s not a new message. But Jude Law wants the world to “give peace a chance.”

The actor has traveled to Afghanistan to promote a new documentary for the Peace One Day organization – a group which campaigns for an annual global ceasefire on Sept. 21.

“Please mark the day,” he told a news conference in Kabul, Reuters reports. “The need now is greater than ever before.”

The Oscar-nominated Brit produced and appears in the film, called The Day After Peace, alongside Angelina Jolie, the Dalia Lama and singer Annie Lennox.

“Jude was overwhelmed on his first trip to Afghanistan last year by the incredible spirit of the people that he met there,” a friend tells PEOPLE. “He’s making good his promise to show them the film. He feels that [the movie] can spread the message to work towards at least one day of peace a year.”

While in the country, Cold Mountain star and the documentary’s director, Jeremy Gilley, will meet with President Hamid Karzai along with VIPs from the United Nations and key aid agencies.
